These are real Jewel beetle elytra. The jewel beetle is eaten in many countries! They are eaten in both the larval and adult stages and are usually fried. After they are fried the head and legs are taken off and the hard elytra is discarded. Some beetle farms keep the elytra to sell to artist and museums as an ethical resource. Each pair of earrings is unique.
